Genesee Gateway Park: Greater Connectivity to Rochester’s Natural Resource

Posted by

After a year of finding an alternative bike route downtown, I felt giddy as I approached the now-open trail on the east side of the Genesee River south of Rochester.

Immediately I saw the fruits of the long awaited upgrade: an amazing new playground and an access point to the Genesee River, allowing kayak and canoe paddlers to launch their craft into the river. The improvements are all part of Rochester’s Roc the Riverway project that aims to reconnect the citizens of the city with the Genesee River.

The playground caters to the mixed-income housing adjacent to the space, giving local children a transcendent apparatus to enjoy.

The new boat launch gives Rochester residents of all walks of life the opportunity to conveniently forge the mighty mighty Genesee River south of downtown.

Rochester continues to re-introduce its residents with the tremendous natural resource that is the Genesee River, while providing space that caters to those who inhabit its waterfront proximity. It is yet another step our city has taken to ensure a more equitable, prosperous, and vibrant future.
