UP’s 2016 In Review

2016 was another amazing year for The Urban Phoenix. We explored smaller New York cities like Hudson, Rome and Geneva, and showed you the positive things in those communities.  These are three truly different but equally ambitious communities that are having success stoking their small urban fires!

The big change in 2016 that will continue in 2017 is the greater emphasis on HOW we can make our communities better places to live, work and play.  These won’t always be the 5000 word exploratory adventures, rather they will be smaller examples of a concept called “New Urbanism” or “Tactical Urbanism” that is sweeping the nation and revitalizing our cities.

In addition, we will be focusing more on three very different communities that have showed tremendous support for The Urban Phoenix… Utica, Rome and Schenectady.  While we will continue to bring you content from other amazing places across the state, we believe the resources and challenges these cities have/face can provide lessons for all of us as we look to revitalize our downtown areas.

In just under 2 years, the Urban Phoenix Blog has been viewed over a quarter million times.  I am so happy with what we have been able to accomplish together and I cannot wait to see what we can do to strengthen our New York State communities in the future!
