Whether you’re commuting to work, grabbing groceries or running errands on your bike or other active mobility device, there is always a need to secure cargo on the fly. Backpacks are nice, but as any rider knows, your back can get sweaty and gross real quick. Securing cargo to the rear rack of a bike is an option, but I’ve found that bungee chords are either too short, too long, or aren’t grippy enough to keep cargo from slipping.

About a year ago, I stumbled upon the Modl Infinity Tool. Smaller than a traditional bungee cords but with 70 pounds of pull strength, these wearable (that’s right, they double at bracelets) and modular gear straps were just the thing I was looking for to secure bags of groceries, items on a shopping run or leftovers at the local restaurant. My mother loves Chardonnay, so a quick trip to the liquor store prior to stopping in and seeing her on Sunday was made easy, as I was able to use the Infinity Tool to secure the bottle.

What makes this tool different than the average bungee cords? 1) The Infinity Tool is modular, meaning you can string as many together as necessary to complete the job.

2) Their grippy, neoprene texture means that whatever you are carrying won’t slide. 3) Unlike a traditional bungee cord, the Infinity Tool allows you to cinch your gear down, ensuring that your gear is tightly secured to your bike or scooter. 4) The Infinity Tool has a number of studs that can be added to enhance setup. This includes a hook stud, which can turn the Infinity Tool into a standard bungee cord, or a hanging tool if needed.

If there is one negative with regard to this product, it’s the cost. Two 12” strands with the traditional stud is $24. Additional studs, including the aforementioned hook stud, are extra. The more you buy, the better the deal is, but compared to a container of bungee cords at Lowe’s, it’s still a significant financial difference. However, if you’re someone like me who saves money each month turning expensive car trips into bike commutes, the extra expenditure is worth it. Try creating a makeshift fender with a regular bungee cord.

The Modl Infinity Tool has been a game changer for my multimodal, micro-mobility lifestyle. I am not being compensated at all by the company… this is simply a rogue endorsement of a product I have very much come to believe in.
